Sound City - Awesome rock and roll documentary

Sound City

Sound City was the recording studio where most of the music you recognize as Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Alternative, Punk, and even Grunge was created. Just about every big artist recorded there, and many credit the equipment as the key to their signature sounds. The Sound City sound board is a huge, custom built, one of a kind analog masterpiece, created in the 70's by Rupert Neve. When Sound City finally closed down Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters rescued that sound board.

Dave then proceeded to make a documentary about Sound City, the great musicians who recorded there, and his project to rescue the equipment. A few of the guests are: Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Trent Reznor, Rick Springfield, Lars Ulrich, Rick Rubin, Butch Vig, Joshua Homme, and Paul McCartney.

Dave Grohl on CNN explaining what the Neve console is, and why he rescued it.

Here is another interview where he gives a tour of the new studio.

Once they get the console from Sound City installed in his new studio, Dave and his Foo Fighters bandmates get to work creating and recording some new songs with tons of great musicians like Stevie Nicks, Corey Taylor, Trent Reznor, and even Paul McCartney. Watching the song creation process with these great musicians is really cool, and they turn out some pretty good tunes.

Here are a couple of the songs created for the documentary that made it to youtube.
From Can to Can't - Corey Taylor, Dave Grohl, Rick Neilson

Mantra - Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor

There is an audio rip of the album is available.
