Lawmakers Move To Ban Drones From Delivering Cannabis

in #cannabis7 years ago (edited)

Drones have made their way into dozens of different industries,...

and we can see that they are now helping to deliver anything and everything from life-saving medical supplies to pizza, Amazon products, and more. But one area where we might not see drones reap a lot of success is within the cannabis industry; specifically when it comes to delivering cannabis goods.

Weed delivery is already taking place in areas like California, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon, but in those areas you won't find anyone delivering via drones.

Lawmakers in California are looking to pass new rules that will ban drones from getting involved with delivering cannabis in any way. The California Bureau of Cannabis Control insists that any and all cannabis products will be required to be transported in commercial trailers or vehicles, and they won't have the option for drone travel.

They will also be looking to prevent deliveries being conducted by any 'human powered vehicles', any rail options, watercraft, and aircraft.

And those deliveries that are permitted to take place are only going to be the ones that are coming from a licensed retailer. They will also be looking to ensure that those who are doing the cannabis deliveries aren't getting high on the product themselves, insisting that for those who are delivering that they won't be allowed to consume any cannabis while performing their job duties.

California is regarded as the largest economy within the US and they've moved forward with their own plans for legalization, along with dozens of other states, and they aren't the only region where it seems as if lawmakers are repeatedly trying to make the transition as difficult as possible.

There is no telling how big the cannabis industry might get someday soon in the US. Some suggest $2 to $5 billion, while other more generous estimates say it'll soon be above $50 billion and continue to grow. It's definitely one of the fastest growing industries at the moment.

If drones are already being used for delivering a variety of medical supplies to those in need around the world, then why wouldn't cannabis also qualify for drone delivery; seeing as cannabis is medicine to the millions who use it on a regular basis to help with their illness. Also, if drones are going to be delivering things like mail, pizza, burgers, and more, then there doesn't seem to be any reason why cannabis would be discriminated against in this way for delivery.

Some cannabis startups in California have already insinuated that cannabis drone delivery is on its way. Perhaps we'll either have to see them adjust their business strategy, or we'll see push-back against the restrictions that are trying to be established by lawmakers in the state.

I think once amazon paves the way for drones delivery of cannabis is inevitable

Hahahah, great pic. If the politicos in California are so "concerned" with cannabis drone deliveries, there must be some kind of angle we're not seeing. These assholes don't take such a keen interest in something unless some entity is greasing their palms.

lol! that was too funny 'weed fairy'

lol glad you liked!

this made my day 😂 so funny 👌

I was gonna make so many jokes about getting high and driving drones to get people high. But then I got high.

So much gubment.

So little freedumbz.

Drug Dealers in the Major Cities have been using Drones for several years now. Fly to your Car pick up the cash, Fly back with the Dope. A bit off topic but this was not Amazon's idea

great post! When are the elite gonna give in and say they been wrong 4 decades and legalize weed. Dumb ass's need 2 smoke some than maybe they'll wake up out of the propaganda coma they are in(reefer madness type shit) while alcohol kills millions and don't get me started on these pain pills they hand out! Anyways thanks 4 sharing, keep up the good work, and everybody have a nice night. One Love yall

Drones may deliver some medical supplies however they are not yet ready to deliver cannabis. I tend to think that it is about money. Everything in this world is about money. Cannabis is a wonder medicine and would compete with current pharma industry. Pharma probably does not want the competition. A doctor or company can make more money treating the symptom rather than cure it. For example if one can make $300.00 to cure you or $750,00.00 to treat your symptoms what will they do? And for as long as they can legally. I think of Dr. Joe Wallach book "Dead Doctors Don't Lie". Yes I believe that they have been lobbied by pharma to keep out the competition for as long s possible. It will not last for ever is the good news. Good article my friend.

I am so ready for my own drone to transport me!
