I have a little black rock in my car. It lives in the folds of leather at the base of my gear shift...in the "gearshift scrotum." 😆I chose this rock in 2009 when I started looking for "something..." I didn't know what, but I wanted a job, a hobby, purpose…. I had been a stay at home mom since 2001, and after 8 years of that I was feeling ready to expand further along my life path. Ready for something more to fill my days than just laundry, dishes, and worrying about my kids every moment.

In my seeking I went to a gathering of friends one evening and there was a little ceremony about purpose and intention and dreams. At the end we were asked to select a rock from a bag of little black rocks. Upon pulling one out you were to say one word out loud that captures what you're looking for, or what the rock meant to you at that moment. I suffused my little rock that night with the word "potential". To this day every time I look at it I hear "potential "in my head. That rock has since lived in my car and travels with me everywhere I go.

Over the years since I've sometimes scoffed at myself for selecting the word "potential." "What a fluffy meaningless non-specific word," my ego says. "You should've chosen something more concrete like a business, a specific goal, etc. Why did you choose 'potential', which only reinforces your own lack of blooming?! You will always stay stuck now in the bud stage and filled with unused potential." (My ego is a harsh bitch sometimes.)

But truly I think it was the right word for me all along. Often we know from the pit of our bellies what's our truth. We may not like the timeline that it takes to fulfill it, but it is what it is. So when I selected that little rock in 2009 some part of me knew that my life had a lot of potential for growth and expansion than the way I was then living, and today I am at least 1,000 times expanded from where I was eight years ago. I got into yoga. Studied and started teaching yoga. Dug deep into years of self reflection. Found myself. Overcame anxiety in the process of all that. Opened our own yoga center this past year. Now we are following our dream and moving our life to Puerto Rico soon. Pursuing my dreams and living much more out loud!

Gearshift scrotum! Haha!

"Pure consciousness is pure potentiality; it is the field of all possibilities and infinite creativity. Pure consciousness is our spiritual essence." Deepak Chopra

I love this word that you chose. Potential! It made me think about that quote.

Oh a love that picture!

😆 thank you. That term just popped in my head when I was writing, but go look at it in your own car. That's EXACTLY what it seems like! Lol

And yes in hindsight potential is a lovely intention word. It was just my bitchy ego sassing me around. Egos always have some snarky things to say, you know?

Thanks for much for commenting. Your blog is deep with content and I'm pleased to know you even visited mine. 🙏🏽

Mine has holes in it (poor scrotum) lol! Inspirational story. Your dreams will all come true!!

I love this story. Living much more outloud is a really descriptive and meaningful way of saying exactly what is going on. Also, Puerto Rico sounds amazing. I am going there next month, so I feel even more connected to your story. I think I need a "rock."

Hi Jessica. 🤗 Thanks for commenting and looking thru my blog. Yes...living more out loud is what it's all about for me. Because, and I haven't told my whole story yet here, I spent most of my past focused on hiding myself and only revealing those parts that I thought that others thought were pleasing. That shit is exhausting and I'm done with it.

Your blog looks really interesting to me and I look Fwd to finding time when I can dig into it. You've been busy too...lots of posts already for a newbie #junebug! 🤘🏽

Thanks for resteeming me. Oh, and enjoy PR! I'm visiting there to apartment shop mid July. Maybe our paths will cross one day.

I am a writer, so it doesn't make sense not for me to be posting a lot I suppose :) I write anyway, might as well put it out there.

I am SUPER excited for PR, going to Fajardo and Culebra :)

It was a great choice. The potential can always be directed in the right direction. This is a universal force.
And where is the little black rock? ;)
Good post!

Yes true what you say ☝🏼

I need to take a picture of it next I'm in my car. Sorry for not including that.

From acorns come mighty oaks!

Keep living your truth s-o, it looks good on yah!

I'm glad yoga got to you! i always think its lucky for people to find their niche early on... a focus that drives them. I'm still in the process, but i do find my preferences by exploring on steemit.

There's so many ideas and thoughts. Puerto Rico, sounds intense! Wondering where you are originally from.

A few months ago I made an acrylic painting on canvas which I had named "Potential". In the very center of the painting is a black sphere. Amazing that we had the same type of imagery! I loved reading your carefully thought out post. I will follow you.

That's so weird/cool! I guess there are common symbols that speak to us on an intuitive level. Thanks for sharing this with me :)

You're welcome. Good luck with all of your projects!

I know the feeling, sometimes deep in the core of my being I always feel I have a bigger purpose in life. But there are always stumbling blocks in the way. We all have potential we just have to tap into it.

True @brotherman ✌🏾 Took me years to clear off layers of sediment that had built up from life concealing my life purpose. Gotta clear that crap off to find our deeper core. Thanks for commenting.

Awesomee....where is about?
