What Is Something You Collect?

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

I was so excited when I opened the box. Little did I know, in just a few seconds, I was about to be majorly disappointed.

"Don't take this out the box! You can't play with this!" my parents said to me.

Those are NOT the words an 8-year-old wants to hear when she just got a special edition Barbie for Christmas!

I know my parents were just worried that it would lose it's potential future value if I played with it. They wanted me to have something special that I could keep for a long time.

I know this because the word "special" was right there on the box:

You can probably guess how this story ended. As soon as my parents went to sleep, I hurriedly ripped open the box as if the world was about to end and I had to reach the contents inside before it did.

Luckily for my parents, my rebellious act didn't backfire too much. I couldn't help myself. Girls just wanna have fun.

I know this because I just looked up the value of that barbie today...

...and it's only selling between $15-$25.

Phew.

I'm relieved to know that my childish whims and disobedience didn't cost them a potential fortune in any way.

As a kid, I was big on collecting two things: rocks and Pokemon cards.

I still have a bunch of Pokemon cards from the 90s sitting in a binder like this:

I read a statistic somewhere that said about 1/3 of people in the UK are collectors, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say 1/3 of people in the world are collectors. 90% of statistics are made up on the spot, anyway.

So I'm betting you or someone you know collects something...

...and no, bellybutton lint doesn't count (although I did find a picture of a guy online who actually collects his bellybutton lint in jars!) Eeeew. I can't bring myself to post the picture.

Honestly, collecting stuff can just make you feel dang good. Plus the hunt to find something rare gives you kind of a rush, doesn't it? And it can be a wise investment.

Some people's collections end up being worth a lot of $$$!

Like this ONE comic book from 1938 that sold for almost $1 million dollars:

Now, the new trend is going towards collecting digital items. And an even more world-changing trend is collecting digital items based on blockchain technology.

Think steemmonsters, for example.

Some people have already sold cards for a good amount of $, or exchanged their gold dragon card for real gold!!

This is why I’m super intrigued by a new project I came across called GAMEDEX.co as they’re in this collecting space (but are combining it with super popular games and they do it using the blockchain).

digital collectibles blockchain with gamedex.png

(click on the pic and it'll take you to their site)

It's super interesting.

They have blockchain-powered digital collectible cards and games like Pokemon, Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, and FIFA.

When I first saw it I thought "Dang, that's pretty legit!"

Not to mention the global gaming market is only getting bigger each year. Last year, it was worth $110 billion dollars in 2017 and is projected to continue growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 6% or more.

Digital collectibles on the blockchain? It's the future.

People love collecting things.

They always have.

And I don’t see that stopping any time soon.

But what is changing is the fact that we're entering an even more digital world than ever before (where our entire identities and lives are merged with digital devices and services and platforms).

There are going to be more and more valuable online collectibles

I mean, didn’t some person spend $140K on a rare CryptoKitty a few months ago?

Craziness.

But, that’s the thing, blockchain is great for video games (and people that hang out in this space). It's great for digital pets, sports cards, fantasy creatures...

...and they all come alive with GAMEDEX.

Now, what makes GAMEDEX unique?

Well, it’s unique because Gamedex acts as your digital wallet, exchange, and game store - all in one. So, if you’re into collectibles, sports betting, and digital card games in general (or believe that this market is going to be huge over the next few years like I do)…

…then you may want to look into their Token Sale and sign up.

They even have people on their team from companies like Topps, Microsoft (XBOX), EA Games, Sony, PlayStation, Twitch, Facebook, and more.

This platform, being connected to the blockchain, also makes collectibles real by making counterfeits impossible, transfers instant, and limited editions just that - limited and rare.

And one of the COOLEST things about them is if you have a game idea but ZERO technical skills (which is basically me all day long), they have a "copy n' paste" code type model where you can easily make your game ideas come to life.

Anywhoo…

Check 'em out and read their white paper if you’re interest is piqued. Their token is still in pre-sale.

Speaking of gaming and collecting things... I've been collecting some SBD's, and I realized that I haven't done a contest or giveaway in a while, so I want to change that! So, let's make a sort of game out of this!

😁 😃

I'll be giving away 20 SBD's!

Now, to win, all you have to do is 1 of 2 things:

  1. You can resteem this post OR you can...

And don't forget to check out Gamedex.co where you can play your fave games and collect your fave cards on the blockchain, mmkay? 'Cause that's what inspired all this madness in the first place.

Greetings, linda Miss Nomadic

Very nice your story with the Collections. For me, it's a form of hobby that can develop and, apart from being a form of entertainment and relaxation, can we transmit knowledge about our collection, case study her.

Let me tell you of my collections. When I was a kid, by mistake, the mail service delivered in my house a album called "Pantanal". This album involved location to place stickers over 100 animals in the "Pantanal". It's a brazilian forest. Animals such as Jaguars, monkeys, alligators ... appeared there. Pretty cool. These figures to complete some came within a gum that bought well cheap. It was super cool.

After that, I really liked the picture and bought the album 1 year later called "" deep sea "in that, had 100 places to put marine animals. Remember some of the cards as if they were today. I could learn a lot about sea creatures with this album.

Another collection very, very and very famous were the cards of the "brasilian Championship soccer". Had this album for a 4 or 5 years. My father gave me. It was super cool.

I appreciate the post and the memories brought.

Good afternoon!!!

I tag @gvand with monster collection cards ; @julisavio with albuns of varietys colection ; @sol25 with a lots of beautiful nature's pictures that she have!!!

Wow, essa é uma história tão legal !!!! Imagine, você começou uma coleção inteira só por causa de algo que deu errado no correio! Adoro!! Esses álbuns de adesivos soam divertidos ... Eu adoraria algo assim também!

in portuguese hahaha. thank you honey

I collect foreign money and have bills from all 6 inhabited continents . It all started one day when a good friend of mine from Romania showed me some of their money and I thought it looked awesome because it had see through symbols on them. So he gave me 2 bills and I hung them one my wall. I was working at Ghirardelli and every summer we would get people from dozens of different countries that would work for 3 months and then go home. So when I would invite these people over they seen my money hanging and damn near every one pulled some foreign bills out of there pocket to add to my collection. Next thing I knew I add over hundred foreign bills. That's when I decided to make some art with it(photo below) I even have some money that is no longer printed ; ) from India and other places. I plan on making more art as I have more bills :)

The photo below is my interpretation of world peace. ~TT

Okay now THAT'S a super cool story!!!!!!! I used to collect foreign money, too! But there's no cool story like that sooo maybe I need to start over haha. I also love $$ with see-through symbols. My first see-through symbol money was from Nicaragua. Malaysia has a pretty one too! Well, you probably know this lol.

I love love love that you made art with it! And a peace sign! That's so cool!

Thanks. It is my favorite piece of art that I have done

I think that's a great piece. Telling every viewer the real reason for world unrest.

Haha I'm glad you understand it! I am going to make a yin yang out of my other foreign cash! And then an anarchy symbol from all american 2 dollar bills!

Fantastic your post. I have friends who are gambling addicts and regular collectors who could start earning $ here and GAMEDEX because they have a lot of knowledge about games to share and even create new projects. I like collecting Classic comics.

oh that's awesome! You should tag them then and enter :) hehe thanks for stopping by @pedrocanella!

I try to convince them almost every day haha. Look, I took a picture of my oldest comic:

posta_n.jpg

wow that's so cool!

Great article! I have started to keep an eye on Gamedex too. The market for digital collectibles is HUGE and still growing.

Personally, I used to collect Carebear cards (don't laugh) when I was a child and then Garbage Pail Kids until my school banned them for being gross. Yesterday I came across an article via Hackernoon about a trading card on auction, and after reading it I literally got so excited that I sold some NEO to buy some cards! So I guess I am now a collector of Gods Unchained LOL!

I've also started following Steem Monsters (when I have time!), thanks to posts by @frankjoseph and @maverickinvictus who have both been entering some great content for the competitions. It's really cool to see all the different entries for this, so much talent on here.

Thanks again for your post. As you can tell, I too, am very enthusiastic about Gamedex and collectibles on the blockchain as a real use case :)

@crypt0rhodes

Hahahahaha I have to look up Garbage Pail Kids because I don't know what they are, but I laughed out loud when you said "my school banned them for being gross."

Wow that made my day haha. omg that's awesome you got those cards! You're right though...isn't it INSANE how huge the digital collectibles market is?!?!

i know a little about gaming actually. But i did meet with some person on steemit who love to play games or collect monsters card.

  • @gamer00 - He like to collect monsters card.
  • @runicar - Love to play regularly.
  • @aggroed - He like to collect Monsters card.

Resteemed post

That's awesome!!! Thank you @aaarif!!! Nice to see you around here again :)

Hi @nomadicsoul, last some days i was busy in my office work. And going over some family issues. I saw post, read and after that my hand vibrate to type something on keyboard and my mind got blank and i said myself what i'll write now?!!! then i stopped and comment nothing :D

Hi there @nomadicsoul, what a wonderful and nicely written post on the topic of collecting! I also think for gaming specifically, blockchain has so many fantastic uses.

Personally, I struggle with digital collectibles - I've long had a big digital music collection and my digital photos however, unique enough for me.

These days, as I've gone through life, I aim to try and collect EXPERIENCES over THINGS :) Although, I also have a collection of vinyl records, and intend to continue growing it ...

For the prizes, can only get as far as 2nd place ... by mentioning @murda-ra as a massive game lover and @john-robert being a collector or 'stacker' of silver and gold coins ...

I collect experiences too, which turns into collecting way too many photos on my phone and running out of storage space! hahaha. Thanks for reading! And tagging :)

I gotta tell. This is a super smart way of doing all these!!! hahaha really! It's like all in one (I'm borrowing a method sometimes, this is my 'asking for permission' kinda comment :D)

And yes, I'm sure joining in the contest :D

haha go for it!!! and thanks!!!!!

I was a huge comic book collector in high school, I used to have a cabinet full of them mostly from Marvel comics. Unfortunately they got lost when we moved. Then I discovered Magic the Gathering and became a rabid collector, lol! 😄 When the new cards got too pricey for my meager student's budget I decided to sell what I have since I can no longer stay competitive and updated.

Now that we have crypto, I'm collecting coins and tokens left right and center! 😁

Tagging collectors @blewiit , @shaungerow, @saywha

Whoa , awesome! Sounds like gamedex is perfect for you!!! I'm glad because of crypto you'll be able to get new cards again! Man whenever I find gaming fans I'm sad that my brother isn't on steemit... He's a huge gamer and hilarious and I think he'd have fun here

I collect Vang!! @nomadicsoul collects awesome blog post history! @goldfashioned also collects Vang !

hahaha I'm gonna join the vang gang soon!

Vang Gang <—— name of my next band
